This is one of those recipes that sounds weird but is actually incredibly delicious. Mayonnaise and marshmallow fluff don’t seem like they’d belong together. But a lot of recipes for apple salad include mini marshmallows. The sweet marshmallow flavor really compliments the tartness in the apples. And looking at the salad with its fresh apples, orange, celery and walnuts – it seems so healthy. So why ruin the illusion by mixing in mini marshmallows? The flavor works and I think the fluff is a better delivery method.

How to Make Apple Salad:
Chop the ingredients – the apples, orange and celery – with a sharp knife. Toss those together with the walnuts. Whisk together the dressing ingredients – mayonnaise, marshmallow fluff, fresh lemon juice and salt – in a separate bowl. Then combine everything. The apple salad tastes the best after it’s sat in the refrigerator for a couple of hours – to let all the flavors really blend together.
Can I Make Apple Salad the Day Before?
Yes. The lemon juice helps keep the fresh apples from turning brown. This salad can be made up to one day ahead before serving. Keep it in the refrigerator in a container with an air-tight lid.

- I used Honeycrisp apples in this salad. Other good choices include: Fuji, Pink Lady, Jazz and Envy.

The Best Apple Salad
Ingredients
- 3 medium apples cored and chopped
- 1 medium orange peeled and chopped
- 2 ribs celery finely chopped
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup marshmallow fluff
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Mix together the apples, oranges, celery and walnuts in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the dressing ingredients - mayonnaise, marshmallow fluff, lemon juice and salt.
- Add the dressing the apple mixture and stir well to combine.
- Allow the salad to sit in the refrigerator for a couple of hours, covered, before serving.
- Can be made up to one day ahead.
