Simple ingredients combine for the most flavorful marinade making these Air Fryer Fajitas fresh, delicious and completely customizable.
This is a new recipe in my house and I’ve made these fajitas a lot. My whole family agrees on them, which is practically a miracle. It’s also an easy meal to throw together on busy weeknights. The marinade is very similar to the flavorings in my Chicken Soft Tacos recipe. Fresh orange juice and chipotle seasonings harmonize so well together. It provides intense, fresh flavor which means you can ease up on the sodium if you need to.

The hot air circulation of the air fryer allows you to cook each of your protein choices to the perfect temperature, before adding it to the skillet-cooked peppers and onions. I love a combination of chicken and steak. But you could also choose to use shrimp and pork. Or even marinate and air fry some portobello mushroom caps for a vegetarian version. My recipes are always a starting point. I want you to absolutely add your own spin to them!

Ingredients for air fryer fajitas recipe
- Orange Juice – I personally love fresh squeezed orange juice for the marinade. But I’ve also used store-bought orange juice to save time.
- Olive Oil – A little bit of oil adds flavor and fat to the marinade.
- Chipotle Sauce – Canned chipotle sauce adds so much flavor and just enough heat.
- Worcestershire Sauce – Adds good depth of flavor to the marinade.
- Yellow Mustard – Maybe a surprising ingredient but it adds a bright and tangy flavor that works well with everything else.
- Cilantro – I like using freeze-dried herbs because they taste fresh but the chopping is already done. Feel free to chop your own. And if you are not a fan of cilantro just omit it. Or replace it with chives or parsley.
- Chicken – Double up on the chicken and use 2 lb chicken breast to make an air fryer chicken fajitas recipe
- Steak – Use all lean steak (filet mignon or top sirloin are great choices) for an air fryer steak fajitas recipe.
- Peppers and Onions – I use three peppers and one large sweet onion for this recipe. Mix and match your favorite colorful bell peppers – red pepper, yellow peppers or green bell pepper. Or use red onion if you prefer.
- Tortillas – I prefer flour tortillas for this recipe but you can use white corn tortilla if you want to.
- Cheese – I like to use freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese. A little goes a long way in these fajitas.
- Sour Cream – I like a little sour cream as a topping to balance the heat from the marinade.
- Variations – Serve with some lime wedges to add some bright citrus flavor to the finished fajitas. I like adding Tajin and a little salt to the marinade if I’m not trying to keep this a low-sodium recipe. Or add some of your favorite fajita seasoning to the marinade to amp up the flavor even more.
Instructions
In a large bowl or glass measuring cup, whisk together the marinade ingredients – orange juice, oil, chipotle sauce, Worcestershire, mustard, garlic and cilantro. Reserve about a half a cup of the marinade for seasoning the peppers and onions. Use the rest of the marinade to marinate the chicken and steak. Marinate your meat for between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
Air fry the steak and chicken separately until they reach a safe eating temperature. While you are air frying your fajita meat, heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of oil and all the peppers and onions. Cook them with a lid on until they are nice and soft, stirring occasionally.
Add the reserved marinade to the cooked peppers and onions slices and continue to cook for a few minutes until the marinade thickens a bit. Slice the air fried steak and chicken and add it to the pan. Serve the fajitas with tortillas, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream.

Time and temperature guide for air fryer fajitas
Steak
Cook the marinated steak at 375 degrees F until it reaches a temperature of 140 – 145 degrees F for medium cooked steak. Cook it longer if you prefer. My 2-inch thick steak took about 18 minutes to cook. Times will vary depending on your brand and style of air fryer. Be sure and flip the steak over halfway through cooking time.
Chicken
Cook the marinated chicken at 350 degrees F until it reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165 F. Be sure and use an instant read thermometer to check several of the pieces of chicken in different places. My small chicken breasts took about 16 minutes to cook through. Times will vary depending on your brand and style of air fryer. Be sure and flip the chicken breasts over halfway through cooking time.
Pork
I love cooking pork chops in my air fryer. So you could definitely marinate some pork chops and add them to your mixed grill fajitas! Cook the pork chops at 375 degrees F for 12 – 15 minutes, flipping over halfway through cooking time. You want your pork chops to be a minimum of 145 degrees F before removing them from the air fryer basket.
Shrimp
Shrimp would be excellent in my fajita marinade as well. Cook them in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 6 – 7 minutes, flipping them over halfway through cooking time.
You can air fry the meat ahead of time, cutting it into thin strips and storing it in the refrigerator for a day or two. Making this recipe perfect for meal prep.
Serving suggestions
I like serving my air fryer fajitas with a side of rice and a fun dessert. It’d be perfect for celebrating Cinco de Mayo or for just a regular weeknight meal. Here’s some of my favorite dessert recipes that would go well with these fajitas –
Storage directions
Store the leftover fajita mix of meat, peppers and onions in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Rewarm it in the microwave when ready to serve. Leftover fajita mixture is also great as a rice bowl.

Air Fryer Fajitas
Equipment
- 1 Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 1 cup orange juice
- 7.76 oz chipotle sauce
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup cilantro chopped
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tsp Tajin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large onion chopped
- 3 bell peppers sliced
- 12 oz steak I use filet mignon
- 16 oz chicken breast boneless and skinless
Instructions
- In a large bowl or glass measuring cup, whisk together the marinade ingredients - orange juice, chipotle sauce, olive oil, cilantro, Worcestershire, yellow mustard, garlic, Tajin and salt. Set aside 1/2 cup of the marinade.
- Then pour the remaining marinade over the meat - half over the steak and half over the chicken. I like to marinate the meat in gallon-sized Ziploc bags. Refrigerate the meat and allow it to marinate for 30 minutes or up to two hours.
- Air fry the steak at 375 degrees F for 16 - 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the steak. Flip the steak over halfway through cooking time. Cook to between 140 - 145 degrees F internal temperature for a medium steak.
- Air fryer the chicken at 350 degrees F for about 16 minutes, flipping the chicken over halfway through cooking time. Cook until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees F.
- While the steak and chicken are cooking in the air fryer, heat a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add about a tablespoon of oil to the pan.
- Add the sliced peppers and onions. Cook them covered, and stirring occasionally until they are soft and starting to brown. This will take about 10 minutes. Once cooked, pour the reserved 1/2 cup of the marinade over the peppers and onions. Continue to cook for a few minutes until the marinade starts to thicken a bit.
- Slice the steak and chicken and stir it into the marinated peppers and onions.
- Serve the air fryer fajitas with tortillas, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream.
