Ingredients for making air fryer egg roll recipe
- Egg Roll Wraps – I’m able to find this brand of egg roll wraps easily at my grocery store. Use your favorite or whatever brand is local to you.
- Rotisserie Chicken – I prefer these egg rolls with white meat shredded chicken. You could also sub with cooked ground pork or ground chicken or even pork sausage instead. But be sure the meat is already cooked before rolling it into the egg roll wrapper.
- Slaw Mix – Store-bought coleslaw mix with shredded cabbage and carrots is such a time saver for these.
- Green Onions – I like sliced green onions for their fresh flavor. But you could sub with shallot or red onion instead.
- Ginger – It’s hard to beat the flavor of fresh ginger. I peel it and then grate it on a microplane zester. Here’s a video tutorial for how to prepare fresh ginger.
- Garlic – Again, for this recipe I prefer the taste of fresh garlic instead of dried garlic powder.
- Soy Sauce – For salty flavor.
- Sweet Chili Sauce – For sweet flavor to balance the salt. I always have a bottle of this brand of sweet chili sauce in my refrigerator. You could sub it for duck sauce instead.
- Vegetable Oil – For both cooking the filling and for brushing the egg roll wrappers. Doing so helps to make these really crispy egg rolls. I don’t recommend using cooking spray.
Instructions
The egg roll filling needs to be cooked first before rolling it into the wrappers. Stir fry the green onions in vegetable oil. Season with ginger, garlic and soy sauce. Add the slaw mix and cook until it softens. Stir in the chicken and Thai sweet chili sauce. Fill the egg rolls and place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer. They cook seam side down at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes until crispy and golden brown. How to assemble homemade egg rolls
On a flat surface, place one egg roll wrapper with a corner facing you. Place about 1/4 cup of filling on the bottom half. Fold the bottom corner over top of the filling, about to the middle of the wrapper. Fold in the two outside corners. Then roll up and away from you like a burrito. See photos. Dip your fingers in some water to help seal the edges of the wrapper as you go.
Serving suggestions
I think egg rolls are a perfect snack any time of day. But they can also be served as part of a larger meal. Either as an appetizer or side dish. Here’s some recipes to help complete a meal with these egg rolls –
Storage directions
Store any leftover cooked egg rolls in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Egg rolls can be frozen after rolling but before cooking. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (to prevent sticking) in the freezer for 2-3 hours. Then transfer them to a freezer safe zippered bag and store for up to one month. You can then air fry them at 350 degrees for about 14 minutes, or about 6-8 minutes per side.
Kitchen Tips
- I use a Philips XXL Air Fryer to test all of my recipes
- These are the brand of egg roll wraps I use
- Use a pastry brush like this for brushing the rolls with oil
- Use tongs for flipping the egg rolls and removing them from the air fryer basket. These stainless-steel locking tongs are my favorite.
