Oreo Krispies take the classic rice krispie treat recipe and kick it up with the addition of crushed Oreo cookies plus extra marshmallows.
This is a treat that my kids beg for and it takes only about ten minutes of effort. These Oreo Krispies don’t really seem homemade because of the help they get from the cereal and cookie aisles. But trust me, they taste infinitely better than the pre-made krispie treats you can buy in the store.

In my opinion the basic rice krispie treat recipe needs a little extra oomph to really make them shine. I started with this recipe here and altered it a bit, including adding the crushed Oreo cookies. They are perfect. Extra thick with lots of marshmallow flavor. Some of the recipes I found when researching Oreo Krispies included melted white chocolate – which is fine if you are a fan of white chocolate. But I prefer the more classic flavor of the melted butter and marshmallows.
These Oreo Krispies are getting rave reviews on Pinterest. I’m floored by how many people are making them and snapping photos of their efforts. I had a recent question from a reader that I think others may wonder too:
Can you cut Oreo Krispies into shapes?
Yes! In this recipe I call for the treats to be spread in a 9-inch square pan because I wanted these Oreo Krispies to be extra indulgent. But if you spread them into a 9×13 dish they will be thinner and easier to cut using a cookie cutter. I would be sure to spray the dish with cooking spray or grease with a little extra butter to make sure the shapes are easy to remove from the dish.

What a great fun recipe, rice krispie cakes are such an enduring memory from my childhood and do not think I have tried them since. Maybe I should change that.
foodtasticmom says
You definitely should change that. At least once, with this recipe 🙂

Great idea! I made them with 1/2 regular Rice Krispies & 1/2 coco krispies. So yummy!
foodtasticmom says
OK, I love the idea of using Cocoa Krispies in this recipe. Great idea!!
Sherri says
I was thinking of making them with all Coco Kristie’s? How did yours come out?
Cheri says
This may be a dumb question, but do you put the oreos whole or do you have to scrape out the cream first? Thank you!
foodtasticmom says
Not a dumb question at all. You use them whole – no need to remove the cream!
Sarah says
I decided to separate my oreos – I crushed up the cookie halves and mixed in with the cereal, then I melted the cream discs with the butter and marshmallows. The finished product still tasted amazing!
foodtasticmom says
Oh wow. What a great idea! Thank you for commenting and sharing the suggestion!

My daughter loves cookies and cream anything! I can’t wait to make these for her! Growing up we made a butterscotch version and a peanut butter version. Loved those! Can’t wait to try this one! Thank you for posting!

You’re welcome. I am intrigued by the butterscotch version – I’m a big fan of butterscotch!

Too bad my husband doesn’t like crispie treats ’cause I had to eat these all by myself! Luckily I only made half the recipe ’cause I still would have eaten these all! I’ve always made crispie treats on a cookie sheet and put them in the fridge to harden up. And a tip to crispie novices – use vegetable spray on your mixing spoon. Thanks so much for a great recipe, it’s now filed under “favorites” .
foodtasticmom says
Love this tip – it’s a great one. I’m sorry your husband didn’t appreciate these treats – but hey, more for you! Thanks so much for coming back to comment, and for the positive review!

I am pulling this one out for Valentines treats for my Grands. I made them once already and thought I had died and gone to heaven! They are totally insanely delish!
I wanted to incorporate red and pink sprinkles but I haven’t used sprinkles for anything other than decorating cupcakes…would you imagine that they will they bleed as I mix it all together?
Thank You
foodtasticmom says
I’m not sure if they’d bleed or not. I personally would sprinkle them on top. You’d probably have to use less but they’ll add a really cute pop of color on top. I’m so glad you enjoy this recipe. Thanks for the comment!

This recipe was easy and fast.
I altered it by throwing 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and dark chocolate from a 1/4 of 70% dark bar smashed. And also added chocolate into marshmallows and then did mixture. Sooooo good. Thank you

I like your thinking! More chocolate is always a good idea! 🙂
Stacie says
Hi! These were great! Wondering if these should go in a 9×13 pan or if you just pile it up REALLY high? I doubled the batch and came out with 2 – 9x13s. Enough to share with friends and neighbors!!
foodtasticmom says
I made mine really, really thick. 🙂 Thank for your sharing your experience so my readers know that if they double this recipe, they could get two 9×13 pans out of it. Portion control is always a good thing!!
Bri Ward says
I am going to be doubling the recipe and I am a bit stuck. How would I divide the marshmallows because doing it the regular way it said divide it 1 cup and then 8 cups so how would I divide it doubled? Would just do 2 cups and 16 cups?
foodtasticmom says
Yes you’d mix 2 cups of the marshmallows in with the Krispie cereal and crushed Oreos and then melt the remaining 16 cups in with the butter.
